On July 21, 2017, Obdulia Sanchez was driving westbound on Henry Miller Road when it rolled over onto the road causing a single-vehicle accident in Merced County, CA. As a result, the crash killed Sanchez's 14 year old sister, Jacqueline Sanchez and injured her friend, 15 year old Manuela Ceja.
The fatal accident was made infamous by Ms. Sanchez's live-streaming of the moments before, during, and after on Instagram video.
She was sentenced early February 2018 to "six years and four months in prison for gross manslaughter, DUI and child endangerment." - Merced Sun-Star
Throughout the investigation by both the California Highway Patrol and Alcoholic Beverage Control, TRACE discovered that a Fresno, CA market is where alcohol was provided to Ms. Sanchez. After her arrested, her blood alcohol content or BAC was 0.106 after about 90 minutes after the crash. It was discovered that a female customer provided Ms. Sanchez alcohol with the knowledge of the store's employee. - Merced Sun-Star
The market, Lewis Market, located in Fresno, CA, had its alcohol license suspended on May 11, 2018 per ABC.
TRACE (Target Responsibility of Alcohol-Connected Emergencies) is an arm of the California Alcoholic Beverage Control, which investigates the sources of alcohol sales to underage minors (under 21 years of age) who are involved in incidents involving death or serious injuries.
